Stannah Winner Finds Peace in the Past

Thanks to Stannah Stairlifts' Think Again Fund Dorothy Henry, 81, has been tracing her family tree and discovered an interesting fact about her great grandad.

SUSSEX, UK, April 09, 2009 /Marriage - Relationships PR News/ -- Creative flare is in the genes for Dorothy Henry (81) who, thanks to the Stannah Stairlifts' Think Again Fund, has discovered her great grandfather was responsible for painting the Brighton Pavilion in the 1800's. The discovery marks a moment of closure for Dorothy who had always wanted to trace her family history, but never had the means to do so.

Dorothy was an only child and raised by a single Mother, so she had little information detailing where her family came from. To help her gain a sense of identity, Dorothy called upon the Think Again Fund to realise her dream of tracing her family lineage.

Dorothy said of the findings: "My Father left us at an early age so I had little information as to where our family came from. I'd always wondered about our family history and it's so wonderful to find out we were involved in something special."

As the Think Again Fund's latest winner, Stannah commissioned professional genealogists, Achievements from Canterbury in Kent, to track and trace Dorothy's family's history back over two-hundred years. The research involved a rigorous search through marriage registrations, transport passenger lists and birth certificates.

The Think Again Fund was launched by Stannah Stairlifts in response to a poll conducted amongst the over 50's that revealed only 13% feel they are achieving their life goals and two thirds regret not having pursued their dreams when they were younger.

The Fund has been gathering pace and reputation over the last two years and has seen Derek, (80), skydiving; Richard, (74), rock climbing; and Mary, (69), racing a Lotus Esprit.

Stannah Stairlifts' Managing Director, Jon Stannah, commented: "Family is so important to who we are and where we're going. I'm so pleased Dorothy was able to discover more about her family's history and wish her all the best for the future."

Over 50's can apply to the Think Again Fund and one person is selected at random each month for Stannah to help make a life-long dream come true.
